WASHINGTON, D.C. - La Salle field hockey (5-7) took a break from their A-10 Conference slate, falling on the road to Georgetown 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither side broke through in the opening quarter, as both squads generated four shots but no goals in the opening 15 minutes.
- The Hoyas broke through early in the second, as Emma Veen der van scored with 14:08 left in the half to give Georgetown a 1-0 lead.
- This lead would hold until early in the third, when junior Hannah Yanovich scored for the first time this season on a feed from Tatum Johnson to level the score at 1-1.
- The Hoyas answered late in the period, as Sophia Towne found the back of the cage with 1:28 to go in the third to put Georgetown up 2-1.
- The Hoyas extended that lead in the fourth on a breakaway goal by Emma Veen der van to bring the final to 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Georgetown held the edge in shots (18-8), and penalty corners (11-4).
- In goal, sophomore Ryan Curley (5-7) made six saves,
- Yanovich's goal was her first of the season, and the fourth of her career.
- With today's assist, Johnson has now compiled 19 points in 12 games.
