Volleyball Drops Home Contest to Fordham

PHILADELPHIA – Volleyball fell to Fordham on Friday evening, 3-0. The Explorers (4-1 in A-10) now sit behind the Rams (5-0 in A-10) at the top of the A-10 East standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening frame was tightly contested with neither team leading by more than two points at any time. The Explorers held exactly that margin, up 23-21, when the Rams rattled off two points to tie it.
  • A kill from senior Reilly Lowe gave La Salle set point, but Fordham countered. Junior Elizabeth Osborn pushed the Blue & Gold ahead again, but again the visitors fought back to 25-25. Two more points for the Rams gave them the set.
  • Fordham started the second with a 4-0 push. A four-point swing from La Salle eventually knotted things up at 8-8, but the away side would put together a few runs to leap out in front. After the dust settled, the Rams were up 21-13.
  • The Explorers tallied three in a row before Fordham claimed three of the next four to force set point at 24-17. Three from the Blue & Gold made things interesting, but Fordham prevailed.
  • The Rams again took control early in the third set, taking early advantages at 4-1 and then 10-5.  The visitors remained ahead at 20-13 when La Salle mounted a comeback, recording four of the next six points to close the deficit to 22-19. Fordham, however, saw things out to take the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Osborn lead all players with 17 kills; she hit .238 on the evening and also added eight digs.
  • Freshman Isa Lopez finished with 20 digs to pace the team, while redshirt sophomore Sarah Nahas tallied 12.
  • Nahas added a game-high 35 assists to conclude with a double double.
  • Lowe was effective when she swung, amassing nine kills on .368 hitting.
  • The Explorers out-killed the Rams 43-35, won the assist battle 41-32 and held a slight edge in digs, 58-54.
