Volleyball Falters on the Road at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Volleyball dropped its penultimate game of the regular season on Wednesday, falling to George Mason 3-1. Junior Elizabeth Osborn led the Explorers with 16 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Salle started stronger, going up 9-5. George Mason then answered emphatically in the middle of the set via a 16-5 run to lead by seven. La Salle claimed the next three out of four points to slice the gap to four, but the Patriots saw the set out.
  • George Mason got off to a 7-2 start in the second set and didn't look back. The Explorers would close to within three on a few occasions, but a strong middle of the set from the hosts opened the game up at 18-9. The Blue & Gold embarked on a rally, closing the score to 21-15, parried by a George Mason run to conclude the frame.
  • The teams traded points at the beginning of the third with neither gaining much separation. That changed when La Salle, down 11-10, recorded the next seven of eight points to go up five. The Patriots narrowed the gap to 20-18, but the away side held off the hosts to take the third.
  • La Salle battled George Mason in the fourth and held an early 6-5 lead, which was erased by a large Patriots run of nine unanswered points. The home team continued to separate, at one point leading 21-12. The Explorers put up a fight, tallying eight of the next 11 to close the gap to 24-20, but a George Mason kill concluded the match.
