Explorers Fall in Heartbreaking Season Finale at Lock Haven, 2-1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The La Salle University field hockey team fought back to tie its contest against Lock Haven late in the fourth quarter, only to see the Bald Eagles come right back in the final minutes to score the game winner in a 2-1 loss on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half went scoreless, as neither team could find a rhythm offensively. Lock Haven held a 5-1 edge in shots and also led in penalty corners, 4-2.
  • Five minutes into the second half, the Bald Eagles broke the deadlock as Martina Spengenberg found the back of the cage.
  • LHU remained in front well into the fourth quarter, before the Explorers tied the game with less than seven minutes remaining.
  • Junior Tori Wright took the initial shot off a penalty corner that was redirected by sophomore Kelsey Jones past Lock Haven goalkeeper Ellie Mead to tie the game.
  • Just over two minutes later, the home team bounced back as Prabhneet Basra pushed home a rebound off a shot that was saved by La Salle goalie Cassie Kincaid.
  • The Explorers could not get much going offensively in the closing minutes, as Lock Haven held them off to improve to 4-1 on the year.
  • Kincaid closed with six saves for La Salle, while freshmen Cat McFadden and Nanouk Heersma recorded shots.
  • The narrow loss, which concludes the season for the Explorers, was the third one-goal loss during Atlantic 10 play.
