Explorers Shutout Davidson at DeVincent

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A strong second quarter for the La Salle field hockey team propelled the Explorers to a 3-0 victory over Davidson at home on Friday afternoon.
 
La Salle improves its overall record to 7-8 and its conference mark to 2-3. Davidson falls to 3-11 on the season and 0-5 in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first quarter saw minimal action with each team gaining their footing. La Salle came into the second frame with explosive energy when Malena Balduzzi dumped the ball off her right shoulder back to Tatum Johnson who fired the shot into the cage to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead.
  • Just two minutes later Zhao Rodrigo connects with Peyton Tollaksen right off the Wildcats goalie's pads for the 2-0 lead.
  • Johnson drove it home before the end of the frame converting the teams' third penalty corner. Johnson collected the pass at the top of the circle from Laura McCann quickly sending it right to Rodrigo for the give-back before firing a rocket at the cage for a 3-0 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • La Salle held the advantage in shots 11-3 and shots on goal 7-2.
  • The Explorers totaled three offensive penalty corners while the Wildcats tallied three.
  • Johnson led the team in shots with five and shots on goal with four.
  • Tollaksen fired off the second most shots with three.
  • Ryan Curley played all 60 minutes in the cage making two saves. This is her third shutout this season.
  • Rodrigo's two assists mark her first of the season.
  • Johnson now has 12 goals on the season and has recorded her second-straight multi-goal game.
  • Tollaksen's goal is her third of the season.
  • Balduzzi's assist is her fourth of the season.
  • The Explorers have now won four-straight games and have three total shutouts this season.
