Explorers Push Past Georgetown, 4-2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle field hockey team allowed an early goal from Georgetown, but never trailed again to come out on top in a 4-2 victory on a rainy Sunday morning.

The Explorers improve to 4-8 overall while the Hoyas fell to 3-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hoyas scored just four minutes into play, but La Salle answered the call just five minutes later on an offensive corner. Tatum Johnson inserted the ball up top to Sofia Pla who delivered it right back to Johnson on the left post to tie it, 1-1.
  • The Explorers took the lead in the 16th minute when Johnson brought the ball down the right side into the circle passing it across the cage to Sol Espona for the tip in.
  • In the 43rd minute Sofia Pla fired a shot to left of the cage where Peyton Tollaksen waited for the tip in to extend the Explorers' lead 3-1.
  • The Hoyas tried to catch up with a goal in the 55th minute to cut the deficit to one, 3-2. Pla sealed the deal for the Explorers in the 58th minute receiving the ball and pulling left away from the Hoyas defense for an initial blocked shot. She recollected her own rebound and took a reserve chip at the cage for the goal to give La Salle the 4-2 victory.
