Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Explorers’ Season Ends at Fairfield in Overtime

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The La Salle field hockey team came out of the half strong with six shots and a goal to take the lead over Fairfield, but a strong fourth quarter by the Stags sent the game into overtime with Fairfield coming out on top 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorers defense was put to work in the first half fending off a strong offensive effort from Fairfield who took the only four shots in the 30 minutes. Emily Streib was solid in the cage with a diving save to keep the game scoreless through the first 30 minutes.
  • The second half was a different story with La Salle holding possession through the first five minutes firing off two shots before earning its first offensive corner of the game that saw a shot from Zhao Rodrigo saved by the Stags goalie. The Explorers took two more attempts at the cage before Tatum Johnson finally converted a goal collecting the ball in front of the cage flipping it up and over the goalie to give La Salle a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute.
  • With 1:35 left in the contest the Stags capitalized on a man-up advantage to tie it up and send the game into overtime.
  • The first eight minutes of overtime were truly a back and forth affair, but a long ball down the sideline set the Stags up for the golden goal at the 68-minute mark to win the game 2-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Johnson's goal marks her 14th of the season and puts her at 33 points to tie the program's single-season points record.
