WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Varsity 4+ boat of the La Salle men's rowing team capped off a stellar campaign, wrapping up the IRA National Championships with a second place finish in the Petite Finals and an eighth place overall finish.
 
After narrowly missing out on the Grand Finals in yesterday's semifinals, just under two seconds off a spot in the top event, the Explorers looked to stay the course in the final race of the season. Out of the gates, the Explorers and Holy Cross were battling over the course of the opening 500m, each trading places in the top spot.
 
The Explorers found themselves surpassing Holy Cross in the second 500m stint, trying to fend off a surge from California. The Golden Bears, however, surged into the front, holding just under a two second lead over the field.
 
Cal kept their lead with another fastest split after 1500m, La Salle following in second place with Northeastern making a push for third. Northeastern overtook the Explorers in the final 500m, but a strong sprint at the end saw the Explorers retake their position in second just behind Cal to claim second and eighth overall in the country.
 
The Varsity 4+ capped off an impressive season, opening their spring with three straight gold medal performances at the Murphy, Knecht and Kerr Cups. The V4+ boat followed up with a strong performance at the Dad Vails, finishing second in the event with a blistering speed that flirted with a course record.
