La Salle Drops Hard Fought Game to No. 14 Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA – The Explorers played hard until the end against a tough Hawks squad 4-1.
 
The Explorers are set to face Providence College on Sunday for Senior Day in their regular season finale at 12 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks were able to apply pressure from they beginning, as they have all season long.
  • The first goal for SJU came in the sixth minute of the contest from Celeste Smits, her third of the season.
  • Only a few minutes later, the Hawks struck again with a goal by Erika Culp.
  • Making her return to Hawk Hill, Julianna Smyth was able to make her presence felt by all. She cut the SJU lead in half with her fifth goal of the season. Dunja Hartsch put a shot on goal and Smyth redirected the ball into the back of the cage.
  • Early in the second quarter Annabel Lindemulder put Saint Joe's back up by two goals. Manu Ghigliotti assisted on the Hawk goal.
  • Culp finished her day with another goal in the 50th minute of the contest to make it 4-1 Saint Joseph's.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • La Salle was able to get off five shots this game, three on goal. Hartsch got off three shots of her own.
  • Sofia Pla remained a mainstay on defense tallying a defensive save in the contest.
  • Emily Streib recorded four saves against the high-powered Hawks offense.
