La Salle Swimming and Diving Set to Start Season Against Towson Friday, UMBC Saturday

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Explorers swimming and diving will hit the road for their first events of the season Friday as they are set to take on the Towson Tigers. Saturday the teams will matchup against the UMBC Retrievers.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The La Salle women finished in eighth-place last season at the A-10 Championships while the men finished the events in seventh place.
  • Sophomore Felix Jedbratt was one of the standouts for the Explorers at the championships, and throughout the season. The Swede broke multiple program records including a third-place finish in the men's 200-yard free with a time of 1:36.19.
  • Throughout the conference championships many La Salle program records were broken. The team od Rosalia Marin-Martinez, Carlota Ungo, Tori Fenn, and Toni Rafferty were able to swim to a 3:45.59 finish in the 400-medley relay, breaking a record set ten years prior.
  •  Lauren Fenn, Tori Fenn, Gabby Herbreder, and Emma van Selm were another group to break a program record last season. Their 1:42.42 time in the 200-medley relay was enough to get them the record.
  • Herbreder was a strong force for the women last season and was ranked 36th nationally for her 200IM time at one point.
  • The Explorers are welcoming eleven men to the roster and six women. Lucas Dekaney is a senior transfer from George Mason and is looking to make a big impact on the diving team.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • The Towson women's team is coming off a fifth-place finish at their conference championship meet in the 2022-23 season.
  • The Tiger men finished in third place in the CAA Championships last season.
  • The head coach of the Tigers is Anthony Bruno.
 
SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS:
  • The UMBC men secured the top spot in the American East Conference Championships last season.
  • The Retriever women were able to finish in fourth place in their conference championships.
  • UMBC is led by Matt Donovan.
