RICHMOND, Va. – The Explorers fell to the Saint Joseph's Hawks 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals Thursday afternoon.
The Explorers playoff run ends here after going 13-5 in the regular season, matching the most wins a La Salle field hockey team has had since 1981.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The early parts of the contest were a true feeling-out period for both sides. Six days removed from their last meeting; the defenses came out holding strong.
- The Hawks were only able to get off one shot in the first quarter, keeping the top ranked team in the playoffs in check.
- Sol Borensztein broke the scoring open in the winding seconds of the first frame of play, her fifth of the season.
- The second quarter goal by the Hawks came from Leigh James putting Saint Joe's up 2-0.
- James was able to continue her strong performance in the game finding the back of the cage for a second time in the third quarter.
- The final score from the Hawks came with four minutes remaining in the fourth from Lily Santi. She put in a powerful shot from Borensztein to the cage.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- La Salle got off two shots in the contest, one from Julianna Smyth and one from Dunja Hartsch.
- Senior goalie Emily Streib saved three shots.
- The Hawks recorded seven corner attempts opposite La Salle's three.
