PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A strong first quarter resulting in two goals from the La Salle field hockey team set the tone for the remainder of the game leading to a 2-1 victory over Drexel on Sunday afternoon.
The win moves the Explorers to 1-1 on the season and marks the Dragons first loss of the season, 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

Tatum Johnson started things off in the fifth minute, receiving a ball just before the top of the circle bringing in past two defenders and firing off the power shot to the bottom right corner of the cage to put La Salle up 1-0.

The momentum continued with La Salle earning its first and only corner of the game with a minute to go in the first frame. The insert from Clara Larripa found Sofia Pla who ripped the first shot which ricocheted off the pads of the Dragons' goalie. The loose ball was quickly gathered by Julianna Smyth and fired into the back of the cage to put the Explorers up 2-0.

The scoring on both sides subsided until the final seconds of the third quarter with Drexel finding the back of the net to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Johnson led the team in shots with three total while placing two on goal.

Smyth, Pla, Camila Daud, Gabrille LaCroix each recorded a single shot in the game.

Drexel held the advantage in shots (10-7), shots on goal (7-5) and corners (11-1).

Emily Streib played the entire 60 minutes in the cage making five saves while allowing just one goal.
