PHILADELPHIA – La Salle field hockey wrapped up the 2024 season Friday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to the #5 Saint Joseph's Hawks. The Explorers finished the season with a 9-10 overall record and 1-6 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game started slow for both offenses, but in the sixth minute, the first shot of the game resulted in the first goal of the game.
- Maaike Gorissen scored her first game of the 2024 season for the Hawks to give them the 1-0 lead.
- Prior to the end of the first quarter, Saint Joseph's added on. Erika Culp tallied her tenth goal of the season to put the Hawks on top 2-0.
- Sophia Wasyliw has the best opportunity for the Explorers on offense, getting a shot on goal in the second frame, but to no avail.
- The La Salle defense did a great job through two quarters holding the ranked Hawk's offense scoreless.
- The fourth quarter presented another opportunity for St. Joe's to tack on another goal, and Alison Buffington did just that. The assist came from Culp, and gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lead DiRenzo started her first collegiate game in goal for the Explorers today and saved eight shots against her former team.
- La Salle's defense only allowed two penalty corners to the #5 Saint Joseph's offense.
- The Explorers also held Saint Joseph's to three goals today, below their average per game for the 2024 season.
