La Salle Athletics, in direct partnership with a focus group comprised of current University students and student-athletes, is proud to announce a new student section named the
Olney Outlaws that will debut at August 26's men's soccer match vs. NJIT and help to create a dynamic game-day environment at all home varsity athletic events held on campus through the fall, winter and spring seasons.
"The Olney Outlaws is a unique name that I think is going to fit our school perfectly," junior women's water polo student-athlete and President of the Olney Outlaws Paige Mitchell said. "I love how it incorporates a piece of Philadelphia while adding a fun twist. I believe this new name and group will mark the beginning of something exciting for La Salle Athletics, for both fans and athletes."
The organization will be student operated with assistance from the athletic department, and will focus on student engagement, developing theme nights to drive student attendance, and create opportunities for students to develop traditions and enhance game-day atmosphere.
"I can't wait to see the impact that the Olney Outlaws have on the game day experience," Jimmy Freeman, secretary of the Olney Outlaws and a manager for the men's basketball program, said. "I'm most looking forward to a rowdy crowd that wants to see our teams win. I'm hoping that this new student section will create a formidable environment for opposing teams."
In addition to Mitchell and Freeman, Claire Durham, a member of the women's water polo team, and men's basketball manager Ben Tornambe will serve as social media and recruitment chairs, respectively.
"We chose 'Olney Outlaws' because it captures our fierce spirit and rebellious energy," Durham said. "Just like outlaws, we're here to disrupt and to show everyone that La Salle pride runs deep."
"I'm thrilled about the launch of the Olney Outlaws as our new student section club," Tornambe stated. "This name brings a fresh, energetic vibe that perfectly matches our enthusiasm and school pride. I can't wait to see how this group will bring new energy and excitement to our events."
