Swim and Dive Compete Against UMBC in Penultimate Home Meet of Season

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle swim and dive teams wrapped up its two-meet homestand Friday afternoon, competing at Kirk Pool for the second straight Friday.

The women's team defeated the UMBC Retrievers by a score of 171-129, while the men fell to UMBC by a decision of 178-121.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorers started off the meet strong, winning the first two events, which were the 200-yard medley relays.
  • The winning women's team in that event (Gabrysia Herbreder, Carlota Ungo, Camilla Frost, and Tori Fenn) finished in a time of 1:45.92.
  • Tarik Gusic, Andrea Savoca, Felix Jedbratt, and Carter Perkins made up the winning team in the men's event, completing the relay in 1:30.72.
  • Beren Celik won the 200-yard free by a hair, with her time of 1:57.93 edging out second place by six hundredths of a second.
  • Zyenna Martinez, Heather Levesque, and Shailla Mejia went 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke.
  • On the men's side in that event, Gusic and Noah Fredriksson finished first and second.
  • Both teams dominated in the 100-yard back. Herbreder and Ungo placed in the top two on the women's side, and Savoca's time of 56.91 was easily the winner in the men's event.
  • In the women's 200-yard fly, the Frost twins, Cecilie and Camilla, went first and second.
  • Jedbratt went on to win two individual events, which was the 50-yard free and the 100-yard fly.
  • Martinez and Gusic each went on to win their second individual event in the 200-yard backstroke.
  • Ungo got her second win of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.12.
  • Tori Fenn held off her competitors in the 100-yard fly, winning by a quarter of a second.
  • Herbreder got her third win of the day in the 200-yard IM, winning by nearly five seconds.
  • In the final swim event of the day, the men's 400-yard free relay team of Perkins, Jedbratt, Fredriksson, and Gusic took gold.
  • On the diving side, Tiffany Brawn won both the one-meter and three-meter events. Kelsie Waddington got third in each of those events.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers will embark on its final road trip before conference championships next weekend, competing against Fordham on Saturday, January 25. The meet will start at 11:00 a.m.
