La Salle University Announces 2025 Hall of Athletes Class

Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle University Alumni Association and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the La Salle Hall of Athletes Class of 2025 on January 8.

The 2012-13 NCAA Sweet 16 La Salle men's basketball team, former decorated La Salle swimmer Craig Cummings, '85, baseball standout Joe Stampone, '76, and field hockey great Mary (Trautwein) Breslin, '83 make up the class of 2025.

The class will be inducted into the Hall of Athletes on Saturday, February 1. The inductees will be recognized at halftime of the La Salle men's basketball team's matchup against George Washington at John E. Glaser Arena at 2:30 p.m. Following a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., dinner and the induction ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. inside Edward J., '63 and Darlene P. Fierko Atrium in Founders' Hall.

"We are excited to recognize the newest members of our Hall of Athletes and can't wait to welcome them back to campus," Vice President of Athletics and Recreation and Director of Athletics Ashwin Puri commented. "We will forever remember our men's basketball team's run to the 2013 Sweet 16 and what it meant to our campus community. Additionally, Mary, Craig, and Joe are deserving recipients of this honor, and we're thrilled to highlight their accomplishments during our Hall of Athletes ceremony."

The 2012-13 La Salle men's basketball team went 24-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1991-92 season. The Explorers went on to defeat Boise State in the First Four in Dayton before earning victories over Kansas State and Mississippi to advance to Sweet 16. 

During the regular season, the Explorers defeated No. 9 Butler at home and No. 19 VCU on the road to help earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. La Salle also defeated Villanova in overtime at then named Tom Gola Arena and went on to win the Philadelphia Big 5 title with a 3-1 record.

A former co-captain for the Explorers, Cummings won 10 individual conference championships during his time at La Salle and was an Olympic Trial qualifier as well as a finalist in the Junior National U.S. Swimming Championships.

Stampone was a four-time letterwinner from 1973-1976. He is fourth all-time with 56 career stolen bases and fourth on the all-time single season steals list with 27 steals.

Breslin was a member of the 1980 National Championship team and is La Salle's all-time leader with 83 games played. Breslin is second in program history with 23 assists, fifth all-time with 97 points, and eighth all-time with 37 goals. Breslin's teams went 52-27-7.
