Custodio’s Three Wins, Diving Sweep Lead La Salle Against Towson

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - Santiago Custodio earned three individual victories and La Salle swept all four diving events as the swimming and diving teams faced Towson on Saturday afternoon.

The La Salle men fell, 179–121, while the women dropped a 205.5–92.5 decision.

Custodio led the men in the pool, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:40.08, the 200 butterfly in 1:52.50 and the 500 freestyle in 4:41.99. He edged Towson's Christian Davidson by 1.17 seconds in the 1,000 and finished nearly four seconds ahead of the field in the 200 butterfly.

Calvin LeBlanc and Lily Chandler powered La Salle's sweep on the boards, each winning both diving events. LeBlanc scored 319.73 points on 1-meter and 330.75 on 3-meter, leading La Salle to the top three spots in both men's events. Tyler Reeve placed second on both boards with scores of 286.58 and 280.13, respectively. Lucas Smit finished third on 1-meter with 264.15, while David Dian took third on 3-meter with 274.35.

Chandler won the women's 1-meter competition with 266.25 points, finishing ahead of teammate Tiffany Brawn, who scored 261.60. Chandler completed her sweep with 276.53 points on 3-meter, where Brawn added a third-place finish with 249.15.

In the women's swimming events, Beren Celik and Denise Yushan delivered a one-two finish in the 100 breaststroke. Celik touched first in 1:07.69, followed by Yushan in 1:09.09. Celik also finished second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:27.20.

Mia Gamble earned a victory in the 100 butterfly, clocking 59.51 to finish more than half a second ahead of Towson's Emily Thornett. Gamble also placed third in the 50 freestyle in 25.35.

Goksu Dogan shared first place in the 100 backstroke with Thornett, as both finished in 58.43. Dogan added a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.87. Josie Strader contributed a runner-up performance in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.34 and took third in the 100 freestyle in 53.75.

For the men, Noah Fredriksson won the 100 backstroke in 51.45 and narrowly missed another victory in the 100 freestyle, finishing second in 46.62, just 0.17 seconds behind Towson's Isak Brkanovic.

Blaise Hofmann added second place in the 200 backstroke in 1:53.03 and third in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.64. Wes Miles finished third in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.61, while Beck Armstrong took third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.00.

La Salle closed the meet with a runner-up finish in the men's 400 freestyle relay. Fredriksson, Austin Wakefield, Matthew Rivas and Ryan Christie combined for a time of 3:08.20.

La Salle returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17, when the men's and women's teams travel across Philadelphia to face Drexel.
