LEWISBURG, PA. – La Salle women's water polo erupted for a huge fourth-quarter surge to defeat Occidental, 8-4, at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday.
The Explorers improve to 3-1 on the season with the victory, while Occidental dropped to 0-7 overall.
Senior center Allie Hollo and senior center forward Paige Mitchell led the scoring with two goals apiece.
Senior attacker Whitney Wood fueled the offense with two assists and three drawn exclusions, while senior center defender Claire Durham drew five exclusions and added two steals to anchor the defense.
In net, junior goalkeeper Katelyn Cuthbert racked up seven saves, shutting out Occidental in the final period.
La Salle set the tone early with strong defense, allowing just one goal in the first half and building a 3-1 halftime lead.
After Occidental surged ahead in the third quarter, the Explorers responded with a dominant 5-0 fourth quarter to seize control and claim the win.
Six different Explorers found the back of the net in the victory. La Salle also capitalized on man-up opportunities with three goals and drew a season-high 13 exclusions.Â

La Salle returns to action at the Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational in Erie, Pa on Feb. 28 at 10:30 a.m. The Explorers will play four games during the weekend and will open the event with a matchup against Gannon.
