VILLANOVA, PA – The La Salle women's water polo team secured a 17-14 victory against Virginia Military Institute in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday. The Explorers improve their record to 10-4 on the season.

Freshman attacker Nadya Azzopardi led the offensive charge with a game-high three goals and also added two assists.

Junior attacker Martina Bonet Saez also had a stellar performance with one goal, two assists, and team-high five steals. In goal, junior Lily Kirby made eight saves to help secure the win. 

Claire Durham, Samara Eschleman, and Andi Moriarity each added two goals, while freshman utility Kira Braun tallied a goal and two assists.

La Salle built a commanding lead early, jumping out to a 5-3 advantage after the first quarter. The Explorers dominated the second period, outscoring VMI 6-1 to take a substantial 11-4 lead into halftime.

VMI mounted a comeback in the second half, narrowing the deficit, but La Salle's withstood the rally. The Keydets outscored the Explorers 10-6 over the final two quarters, but La Salle held on for their first conference victory. of the season.

The Explorers return to the Villanova Swim Complex on Sunday, March 15, to face No. 20 Wagner at 3 p.m.
