The Palestra
Commonly known as the Cathedral of College Basketball™, The Palestra is by far one of the most infamous and recognizable arenas in the world. For almost a century, basketball fans and history buffs have traveled far and wide to visit The University of Pennsylvania's historic gym. To this day, The Palestra is most commonly known as the home to the Penn Quakers men's and women's basketball teams. The arena will also be home to the La Salle University Men's and Women's basketball teams for the 2023-24 season as the Tom Gola Arena undergoes renovations.
Location
The Palestra is located in the middle of the University of Pennsylvania's Campus in West Philadelphia. Located at 223 S 33rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
Directions From La Salle University's Campus
Starting at 1900 W Olney Ave on La Salle's campus, head East on Olney Ave and then take your first right onto Ogontz Ave. At the traffic lights, take a right onto Lindley Ave/E Logan St. Take your next left onto Stenton Ave. Once at the next set of traffic lights, go straight across the intersection onto Berkley St. and then at the next traffic light, slightly turn left onto Roberts Ave. Continue straight on Roberts Ave for 1.8 miles, then turn left onto Henry Ave. Next, turn right onto W Hunting Park Ave, then continue straight onto Ridge Ave. Ridge Ave turns slightly right and becomes US-13 S/N 33rd St. Continue to follow US-13 S for 1.5 miles heading towards W Girard Ave. Cross over the Girard Bridge and then turn left onto N 34th St. Continue straight for 1.3 miles and then turn left onto Chestnut St.
Public Transportation
The nearest major SEPTA transportation hub to La Salle University is the Olney Transportation Center located at the intersection of Broad and Olney. There, you can take the Broad Street Line South to City Hall where you will then need to transfer on over to the Market Street Line at 15th St. Station. Head West on the Market Street SEPTA Line towards 30th St. Station. From there, you can walk about 10 minutes or 0.4 miles to the Palestra. For more information, visit SEPTA's website.
Basketball Game-Day Parking
There are several parking lot options available on the University of Pennsylvania's campus within walking distance of the Palestra. These include the Penn Museum Parking Garage, Parking Lot A, and the Penn Park Parking Lot, all of which will be open and available to use for La Salle basketball games.
Security officers are assigned to the lot 24/7. There is limited on-street parking in the area, if visitors should so choose; however, parking enforcement is a regular occurrence in this area. It is recommended that attendees arrive at least 1/2 hour prior to game time.
