Alexa Hoover, a two-time All-American at the University of Pennsylvania who finished her career as the school's all-time leading scorer, begins her third season with La Salle's field hockey program as an assistant coach in 2021-22.
The first four-time First Team All-Ivy League selection in Penn history and just the sixth in the history of the Ivy League, Hoover most recently served as Director of Field Hockey Operations at her alma mater last season.
In her first season with the Quakers, Hoover was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and was a four-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week selection.
She followed that up with a spectacular sophomore season that saw her rank second nationally with 1.69 goals per game en route to Second Team All-America honors. The Quakers compiled a 13-3 record that season, falling one game shy of an Ivy League title.
As a junior, Hoover broke Penn's all-time record with her 45th career goal midway through the season. She was once again named Second Team All-American and earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring six goals in wins over Villanova and Brown.
Named team captain as a senior, she concluded her career another First Team All-Region nod – her third straight year accomplishing the feat. Hoover registered two assists and scored the game-winning goal as Penn defeated No. 10 Syracuse, 3-2. For her career, she accumulated 68 goals and 163 points, both tops in program history and fourth on the Ivy League career lists.
In addition to her stellar collegiate career, Hoover has played internationally for the United States as part of the USA's Olympic Developmental Team. In 2014, she was a member of Team USA's bronze medal-winning squad at the Pan American Indoor Cup in Uruguay. She was also part of the 4 Nations Canadian Tour and Germany Tour for the USA Indoor National Team.
Hoover, a native of Collegeville, Pa., who played at Methacton High School and for the Viper Field Hockey program, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience from Penn in 2018.
