Shannon Witzel

Shannon Witzel returns to the sidelines in 2011-12 as an assistant lacrosse coach for the Explorers after spending two years at Townson University as a development assistant.

Prior to working at Towson, Witzel was the Explorers' assistant coach for one season.

Witzel also served as a volunteer assistant at Towson University for the 2008 season following her four-year career as a Tiger.

At Towson, Witzel worked primarily with the midfield and defenders which will be her area of focus at La Salle. She assisted in coaching the Tigers to a conference championship, a top twenty national ranking and a first round NCAA tournament appearance.

The 2007 Towson University graduate had a distinguished playing career before entering the coaching profession. As a player, Witzel was a three-time All-CAA honoree and a member of the IWLCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team. During numerous points in her career, Witzel led the nation in goals per game (3.74) and the CAA in total scoring.

She entered the record books at Towson, finishing with 208 career goals, tying her for most goals by a player in program history. To cap off what was an already impressive playing career, Witzel was named Towson University's Female Athlete of the Year.

Witzel holds a Bachelor's degree from Towson in Sports Psychology, and hopes to pursue a Master's degree in a related field. The Pottstown High School graduate was a three-sport athlete who also played basketball and field hockey.
