Dr. R. Scott Cook, DO, FAOASM

Dr. R. Scott Cook joined La Salle in November 2019, and currently enjoys serving the La Salle University community as the AVP of Student Wellness Services, Medical Director of the Student Health Center, & Head Team Physician.  Dr. Cook is a Primary Care Sports Medicine physician who graduated from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed Family Medicine residency training at St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA and Sports Medicine fellowship training locally at Crozer-Keystone.  

Prior to beginning his medical education and career, Scott enjoyed a career as a professional engineer in the international automotive racing industry.  In the 17 years since completion of his medical training, Scott has experienced a great breadth of work in the fields of primary care and sports medicine. Not only clinically as a physician, but also academically as an educator, and administratively in directorship and supervisory roles. His professional clinical experience developed through both private practice and academic medical training settings, as well as team physician and sports medicine consultative roles in youth and high school athletics, collegiate athletics, and professional sports, including professional ice hockey, professional boxing, and Major League Baseball.  Dr. Cook has previously served as President of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, and as fellowship director of a Sports Medicine training program.  

He continues his commitment to the importance of ongoing education and clinical research through teaching appointments as a medical lecturer and clinical preceptor at professional schools and guest lecturer at national organizations.  Dr. Cook has special clinical interests in the areas of preventative care and athletic conditioning, overuse injuries, and concussion management; and a passion for integrative approaches that prioritize considering behavioral health and mental wellbeing, healthcare access and equity, and social determinants of health for every patient.
