Morgan Szekely has been named this week’s Athlete of the Week after finishing fifth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.
 
The freshman from Marion, Texas ran a 20:34 on her way to qualifying for nationals. Her time was the fastest of any freshman in the race and she was just 28 seconds off of the winner. Szekely sat in sixth place after the first two miles and was able to pull away and secure her spot in nationals.
 
Szekely was coming off the A-10 Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. two weeks ago where she won the race on her way to athlete of the year and freshman of the year honors.  Thanks to her qualifying, La Salle has now sent a runner to nationals each of the past three seasons.
 
Szekely will try to earn a place on the podium when she takes the course in Terree Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Championships on November 22.
