Morgan Szekely has been named GoExplorers.com Athlete of the Month for November.
 
The freshman from Marion, Texas started off the month by winning the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships at Schenely Park in Pittsburg. Szekely took home Rookie of the Year and Performer of the Year honors after running a 17:31.2 on the 5k course. She also helped the team finish in second place overall at the championship.
 
Two weeks later Szekely competed in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships at Penn State where she finished in fifth place. Her time of 20:34 on the 6k course was good enough to earn her at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
 
To cap off the month, Szekely competed at the NCAA Championships which were held at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. The freshman was the fifth runner in La Salle history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She also kept a streak alive as for the past three seasons the Explorers have been represented at nationals as Meghan McGlinchey qualified in 2012 and Michelle Capozzi qualified last year. Overall, Szekely was the first freshman in school history to qualify and capped off her season by running a 21:40.7 in the 6k race.
