PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team wraps up the home portion of its schedule this weekend, hosting No. 9 Charlotte on Friday at 7:00 PM and Saint Louis on Sunday at 1:00 PM. A ceremony honoring the team's seniors will take place approximately 15 minute prior to kickoff on Sunday.
The Explorers come into the weekend after going 4-1-3 in their last eight games, thanks to the stellar defense and some timely scoring. The team collected a 2-1 double overtime win against Rhode Island behind a
Jason Plumhoff penalty kick at the 105th minute mark, before playing Massachusetts to a scoreless draw.
John McCarthy snagged Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week honors after recording 25 saves and helping the team to a 1-0-1 weekend despite facing 44 shots. He was also named the Philly Soccer News' Player of the Week as well. McCarthy leads the nation in saves per game (7.73) and his 85 total saves are third nationally. He is tied for 12th in country in save percentage (.850).
Plumhoff continues to lead the team in scoring and is up to 13 points, which ranks him in the top five in the A-10.
Jeff Pio has added two goals and nine others have at least one point.
This weekend is the final home weekend for the Explorers, who head on the road to Fordham next week.
