Women's Basketball Travels to Queens For Midweek Tilt at St. John's

Game Notes

PHILADELPHIA
- The La Salle women's basketball team plays its first of back-to-back games against BIG EAST foes when it travels to Queens today for a 7 p.m. contest at St. John's.

The Explorers are coming off of a 1-1 weekend to start the 2011-12 campaign, with an easy 63-43 win over Lehigh in the season opener and a tough 81-76 defeat at Albany on Sunday. Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week pick Jada Payne led the Explorers in scoring over the weekend with a 15.5 ppg clip, pouring in 15 in her collegiate debut on Friday and following up with 16 at Albany. She also added 5.5 rebounds per game.

Classmate Jordan Mosley is also making a splash, scoring 12 in her collegiate debut against Lehigh and then also netting 16 at Albany. Mosley also added six assists, two blocks and three steals over the weekend.

Brittany Wilson, who spent her first minutes on the court as an Explorer this weekend following her redshirt year as a transfer, led all Explorers in scoring with 17 points at Albany with the first three buckets being threes.

The young squad has seen three freshmen start in both games so far, with Payne, Mosley and Omaah Tayong getting the starting nods.

St. John's (0-1) lost 64-58 to St. Bonaventure in the Red Storm's season opener, with Eugeneia McPherson leading a trio of double-digit point scorers with 14.

Wednesday night marks only the second meeting all-time for the Explorers and Red Storm, with the only other contest back on Dec. 30, 2001. The Explorers won that game, 57-53.
