Box Score AMBLER, Pa. - The La Salle men's soccer team will have to wait two more days to earn a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament as a first half penalty kick by Temple was all that was needed in a 1-0 loss in Ambler on Friday afternoon.
The Explorers (5-8-4, 3-2-3 Atlantic 10) where whistled for a handball in the box in the 37th minute, and Cody Calafiore converted the penalty kick to put the Owls (9-8, 5-3 Atlantic 10) up 1-0.
The two squads played a chippy defensive game, holding each other off the board despite a combined 34 shots. La Salle attempted 20 shots and Temple added 14.
John McCarthy made six saves for the Explorers, as did his Owl counterpart Bobby Rosato.
The Explorers' best chance came in the 27th minute when the Owls were called for a rare passback, setting up an indirect kick.
Jason Plumhoff took the kick but the ball bounced off the right post and the Owls cleared it. Plumhoff also took two straight shots in the 82nd and 83rd minutes, but the first was blocked and the second went wide.
Plumhoff led all players with 10 shots, four of which were on target. Tyler Witmer led the home squad with four attempts.
The Explorers wrap up the regular season on Sunday when they head across town to Saint Joseph's for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
