Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season at Temple, St. Joe's This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team continues its quest for a second straight Atlantic 10 Tournament berth when the Explorers head to Temple and Saint Joseph's this weekend for the final two regular season games of 2011. The Explorers and Owls kick off at 2:30 this afternoon at Temple's Ambler campus and head down Route 1 to Saint Joseph's on Sunday at 1 pm.

The Explorers (5-7-4, 3-1-3) are coming off of a tough 4-0 loss at Fordham last Friday, their first loss in regular season conference play in more than a calendar year. They look to bounce back against a Temple team that is also in the hunt for an A-10 tournament spot as the two squads are currently in a four-way tie for sixth place with 12 points. The top six teams qualify for the tournament, which is in St. Louis starting next Thursday.

The team continues to be led in scoring by Jason Plumhoff with 16 points. Keeper John McCarthy once again ranks top in the nation in saves (117) and saves per game (8.36) and is 16th in save percentage (.836). He was recently named La Salle's Student-Athlete of the Month as he averaged more than 10 saves per game in October.

The Owls broke a two-game skid with a 2-1 win against St. Bonaventure last Sunday. An 87th minute goal by Nolan Hemmer broke a 1-1 tie for the win. Prior to that, they lost 2-0 at Duquesne and 1-0 against Dayton.

Cody Calafiore leads the squad with 12 points on five goals and two assists, and Tyler Witmer chips in 11 points on four goals and three assists. Bobby Rosato has started all 16 games in goal and sports a .701 save percentage with 57 saves.

The Explorers visit a struggling Hawks squad on Sunday. The Hawks are just 2-13 (1-6 Atlantic 10), and picked up their second win of the season last weekend at St. Bonaventure. The team suffered a 5-0 loss to Duquesne last Sunday.

The Hawks have scored just 10 goals all season, four of those by Alex Critzos. Jake Nelson has also chipped in six points on two goals and two assists. Andrew D'Ottavi has spent the majority of the season between the Hawk posts, making 85 saves with a .739 save percentage.
