Men's Soccer Gearing Up For Weekend Trip to Mount St. Mary's

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team, coming off of a win last Saturday at Army followed by a double overtime scoreless tie against Lehigh on Tuesday night, will head to Emmitsburg, Md., on Saturday for the final non-conference roadtrip of the season.

Jason Plumhoff (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) headed home the goal in the 86th minute at Army last Saturday to lift the Explorers to the 1-0 win, their first of the season. The defense was strong on Tuesday night against Lehigh, which is currently ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region by the NSCAA. The Explorers played the Mountain Hawks to a scoreless tie through two overtimes, and John McCarthy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Northeast Catholic) recorded his first shutout of the season with several terrific saves on tough shots.

Plumhoff leads the Explorers in points through seven games, as the sophomore has recorded five points on two goals and one assist. Juniors Jeff Pio (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Kameron Teel (Glassboro, N.J./Immaculata/Gloucester Catholic) also enter Saturday's game with a goal apiece, while freshman Rob Friskey (King of Prussia, Pa./Penn Charter) and sophomore Jidell Roach (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) have assisted on one goal each.

With the seven saves on Tuesday night, McCarthy upped his season total to 26 saves through his five games played and improved his save percentage to .812. He ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 in both categories.

Mount St. Mary's enters its final non-conference game with a 2-3-1 record. The Mountaineers are coming off of a 2-0 win over Howard on Monday, their first win since a 2-1 decision over Rider on Sept. 4. Senior Ian Hendrie leads the team with two goals and three assists for seven points. The senior posted two tallies and an assist against Iona on Sept. 11, as part of the same Lafayette Puma Soccer Classic that the Explorers played in.

Senior Chris Wheeler is another force for the Mountaineers, with 35 career goals including 13 last season to break The Mount's Division I single-season scoring record.
