PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team looks to bounce back from a tough loss at Mount St. Mary's when they host the UMBC Retrievers tonight in McCarthy Stadium. Kickoff time is set for 7:00 PM for the Explorers' final non-conference game of the season.
The Explorers had several opportunities in Emmitsburg on Saturday with 11 shots, but could not solve the Mountaineer defense. Meanwhile, The Mount's Zoncher Dennis rattled off four straight goals to put the game out of reach.
Jason Plumhoff (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) continues to lead the team in scoring with a pair of goals and an assist for five points.
Jeff Pio (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and
Kameron Teel (Glassboro, N.J./Immaculata/Gloucester Catholic) have also found the back of the net this season.
John McCarthy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Northeast Catholic) has registered 28 saves in his six games between the posts and has a .718 save percentage.
The UMBC Retrievers (3-2-2) are coming off of a 3-1 win on Saturday evening against Longwood, snapping a three-game winless streak. Prior to their win over Longwood, the Retrievers pushed top-ranked Maryland to double overtime before falling 4-3. The Retrievers feature balanced scoring with Sean Rothe leading the team with seven points on three goals and an assist. Pete Caringi has two goals and two assists for six points and Andrew Bulls adds four points. Six other Retrievers have at least one goal or one assist.
La Salle and UMBC met on the pitch last year, with the Retrievers taking a 2-1 decision in overtime.
