PHILADELPHIA - La Salle will put its 11-game home winning streak on the line when it welcomes Rhode Island to Gola Arena on Saturday at 4 PM. The first 750 students will receive a Brother Ed Sheehy Bobblehead and the 1987 NIT finalists will be honored at a first half media timeout.
Scouting the Explorers (13-6, 2-2 A-10)
The Explorers are coming off a 76-70 loss at Temple despite 18 points from sophomore
Tyreek Duren and 17 from junior
Ramon Galloway. La Salle drew within one point four times in the final minute but were unable to overcome the Owls at the Liacouras Center.
Duren, the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, has been hot from the field of late. He is averaging 17.3 ppg. and shooting 19-for-27 (70.3%) from the field in his last three contests.
Galloway continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.1 ppg. and is third in the A-10 in three-pointers per game (2.6). Senior
Earl Pettis, who has hit for 18.2 ppg. in his last five, adds 14.5 ppg. Duren (13.7 ppg.) and sophomore
Sam Mills (12.0) round out the Explorers in double-figures.
The Blue and Gold have been unbeatable at Gola Arena this season, winning a facility-record 11 straight games dating back to the end of the 2010-11 season. La Salle is 9-0 at Gola in 2011-12 which is two short of tying the facility record of 11 home wins set by the 2008-09 squad.
La Salle continues to shoot the ball well from long-range. LU is shooting 39.5% from long range, which leads the A-10
and is 22nd nationally. La Salle is second in the A-10 in three-pointers made and is 21st nationally.
Scouting the Rams (3-16, 0-4 A-10)
Rhode Island has dropped four in a row to fall to 3-16 (0-4 A-10). Billy Baron, a transfer from Virginia and the son of coach Jim Baron, leads the team in scoring at 14.6 ppg. Nikola Malesevic adds 13.4, while Orion Outerbridge (11.7) and Jonathan Holton (10.0) also reach double-figures.
The Rams out-rebound their opponents by a 3.4 rpg. clip. Jonathan Holton grabs 7.4 rpg. while Outerbridge adds 7.1 rpg.
