PHILADELPHIA – Junior Ramon Galloway led the Explorers with a career-high 28 points, including 21 in the first half, as La Salle posted its 11th win at Tom Gola Arena this season, defeating George Washington, 78-63, on Wednesday evening to tie the Gola record for most wins in the building in a single season.

The Explorers (15-6, 4-2 A-10) are undefeated at home this winter and have won 13 consecutive games at Gola Arena dating back to last season. The victory moves La Salle into a five-way tie for first place in the Atlantic 10.

“We're obviously thrilled,” said head coach Dr. John Giannini.  “We bet a good, veteran team that was on a three-game winning streak.”

The Explorers shot a season-best 57.7% from the field on the night, including a season-best 57.1% from beyond the arc.  La Salle torched the Colonials in the first half with 72.4% shooting from the field and 75% from three.

Galloway had a lot to do with that, going 11-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from deep.

“My teammates found me and got me open shots,” Galloway said. “You play with 4 or 5 guards and any day any of us can go off.. Most of my shots came in the flow of the game. Coach G says we're all good guards so there's no need to hunt shots.”

Senior Earl Pettis chipped in 15 points and freshman Jerrell Wright added 12.

Freshman Steve Zack had a big game for the Explorers, registering a career-high nine points and three blocks.

“He was tremendous,” Giannini said.  “I really think that moving forward Jerrell and Steve can be a very special combination.”

The Explorers had to work themselves out of an early 12-5 deficit after GW's Tony Taylor sunk a trey with 16:42 to go in the first half.  A long three by Galloway cut La Salle's deficit to 12-10 with 15:32 to play.

A Galloway dunk followed by a trey on La Salle's next possession would give the Explorers the 19-18 lead at 12:53.

Pettis hit three straight baskets for the Explorers but put the squad up 40-31 with just under 5 to play before the break.

The Explorers closed the half on a 6-2 run in the final two minutes, taking a 51-38 lead into the half.

The second half was all La Salle, as the defensive clamped down and allowed only 25 points.

Sophomore Sam Mills, who added five assists, gave the Explorers a 20 point lead, its largest of the evening, at 46-66 after a trey from the corner with 13:09 to play.

GW falls to 8-12, 3-3 in the A-10.

Tonight's contest was tabbed “Academic Recognition Night,” and several Explorer teams, as well as individual student-athletes, were honored for their work in the classroom.

La Salle will hit the road this weekend for an A-10 contest at Duquesne on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
