PITTSBURGH - The first place La Salle men's basketball team heads to Duquesne on Saturday in yet another key Atlantic 10 match-up. The Explorers have won two straight games and are 15-6 overall, 4-2 in the A-10. Five teams are tied on top of the league standings at 4-2 and one game separates first through 10th place in the standings.
Scouting the Explorers (15-6, 4-2 A-10)
La Salle is coming off a 78-63 victory over George Washington on Wednesday at Gola Arena for the team's 13th straight home victory. Junior
Ramon Galloway scored a career-high 28 points on 11-for-12 shooting from the field while senior
Earl Pettis scored 15 points.
Galloway, the team's top scorer at 15.6 ppg. and seventh nationally in three-point shooting (.481), is part of a four-guard offense in which all four players average at least 11 ppg. Pettis adds 14.8 ppg., while sophomore
Tyreek Duren, the reigning A-10 Player of the Week, chips in with 13.9 ppg. and a team-best 4.5 apg. Sophomore
Sam Mills, who has made a three-pointer in 20 straight games, averages 11.6 ppg.
That quartet is a big reason the Explorers lead the conference, and are 14th nationally, in three-point shooting at 40.4%. La Salle is second in the A-10 in three-point field goals and 28th nationally.
The Blue and Gold have also taken good care of the basketball this season. La Salle committed nine turnovers against GW, the seventh time the team has committed single digit turnovers in a game. That is more than the last five seasons combined.
Mills leads the A-10 and is 11th nationally in assist/turnover ratio (2.9). Duren ranks fifth in the conference (1.9).
Scouting the Dukes (12-8, 3-3 A-10)
Duquesne has been off since suffering a 68-41 defeat at Saint Louis on Saturday. Sean Johnson leads the Dukes in scoring at 15.5 ppg., followed by B.J. Monteiro (14.9) and T.J. McConnell (11.7). DU has been outrebounded by a 7.2/game clip this season. Head coach Ron Everhart's group is 8-2 at home, having won five of its last six.
Series History
La Salle leads the all-time series 36-30 and has won three of the last four at the Palumbo Center.
