PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball squad returns home on Saturday, hosting St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. at Tom Gola Arena. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
The Explorers own a 10-9 advantage all time over the Bonnies, though the Bonnies have won the last four in a row.
Scouting La Salle (9-11, 3-2 Atlantic 10)...
The Explorers have won six of their last eight games but dropped tough contests in the last two at Charlotte and Richmond. Thanks to a career-high 24 points from
Jada Payne, the Explorers were able to mitigate 27 Spider points at the free throw line to drop the contest by just four points, 74-70, at the Robins Center. That marked the second straight career high for Payne, who scored a then-best 18 points at Charlotte just three days prior. She has hit double figures in three straight games, averaging 17.3 points per game over that stretch and is averaging 12.6 ppg in all league games to be ranked in the top 15.
After four straight single-digit scoring games,
Alexis Scott regained her offensive touch to average 16.5 points per game on the road last week, dropping in 16 at Charlotte and 17 at Richmond. She is also one of two players in the conference (along with St. Bonaventure's Jessica Jenkins) to be perfect at the free throw line in Atlantic 10 play so far, going 11-for-11 at the charity stripe.
Overall,
Brittany Wilson continues to lead the squad in scoring with 14.3 points per contest, which ranks her fourth in the Atlantic 10 in overall scoring. Her 18.8 ppg clip in league play, however, is the best in the A-10. Her long-range shot has flourished in league play, as she is ranked fourth with a 45.8 percent accuracy from beyond the arc and fifth with 2.2 made treys per game.
Scouting St. Bonaventure (19-2, 6-0 Atlantic 10)...
The Bonnies come to Tom Gola Arena on an eight-game win streak, as their last loss came on Dec. 29th against Villanova in the Monmouth Hawks Holiday Classic. The squad has beaten a program-best three BCS schools, including then-No. 25 St. John's, West Virginia and Indiana. Their only other loss was at the hands of Delaware.
The squad is coming off of a 68-61 win over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday behind four players in double figures, led by Doris Ortega's game-high 20 points.
The Bonnies are led by the scoring duo of Jenkins (14.2 ppg) and Megan Van Tatenhove (12.1 ppg). Jenkins has hit a league-best 67 three-pointers this season, averaging 3.2 made treys per game.
Van Tatenhove chips in 5.8 rebounds per game, second to team leader Alaina Walker with 5.9 rpg. Walker also adds 7.6 ppg.
