PHILADELPHIA  Winners of 10 of its last 11 contests, the La Salle men's basketball team will travel to the historic Palestra on Tuesday to take on Penn in a Big 5 match-up. It marks the last non-conference game of the season.

Scouting the Explorers (12-4, 0-1 Big 5)

La Salle, which started off the Atlantic 10 schedule with a pair of victories over Xavier and Massachusetts this week, will take its final break from conference play by visiting Penn. The Explorers have put together their second five-game winning streak and are the first LU team since the 2005-06 squad to string at least five straight victories twice in a season. La Salle's 12-4 start is the best since the 1990-91 team started 13-3.

Junior Ramon Galloway continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.5 ppg. He is tops in the conference in three-pointers per contest at 2.8 and is 19th nationally in three-point percentage (.468). As a team, the Explorers are one of five teams that rank in the top 20 nationally in both three-pointers (138) and three-point percentage (.399).

The Palestra has been kind to La Salle of late. The Blue and Gold have won six of its last eight games at the Palestra dating back to Jan. 15, 2008, including the last three over Saint Joseph's and the last two over Penn. LU also beat Rider there this season and fell to Oklahoma State (12/4/10) and Robert Morris (11/25/11).

Senior Earl Pettis has averaged 19.0 ppg. in his last two games to bump his scoring average to 14.2 ppg. Sophomore Tyreek Duren, who has dished 15 assists in his last two contests, adds 13.1 ppg. and is third in the league in assist to turnover ratio (2.1).

Sophomore Sam Mills has made a three-pointer in 15 straight games this season and freshman Jerrell Wright, who is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game in his last six, round out the starting lineup.

Scouting the Quakers (7-8, 0-2 Big 5)

Penn has had almost week off since beating Lafayette on Wednesday, 78-73. In that game Bob Cousey Award finalist Zack Rosen passed his head coach Jerome Allen to top Penn's all-time assist list. Rosen is averaging 19.4 ppg. and 6.1 apg.

Tyler Bernardini adds 15.4 ppg. for the Quakers, who are playing their final non-conference game before heading into Ivy League play.

Penn has played a pair of Big 5 games, nearly topping Temple (73-67, OT) and Villanova (73-65), earlier this season.

The Series
Penn leads the all-time series 38-26, but La Salle has won the last four meetings. Last season, the Explorers won 89-83 in overtime.

The first 42 meetings and 51 of the 64 meetings have been at the Palestra and the two teams have met every year since the Big 5 began in 1955-56.  The teams played eight times prior to that, beginning in 1933.

Next up
La Salle will remain on the road and visits Dayton on Saturday at 7 PM.
