Men's Soccer Blanks GW, 4-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Jason Plumhoff recorded a three-point day and four different Explorers scored as the La Salle men's soccer squad blanked George Washington 4-0 on Friday afternoon in the nation's capital.
 
The Explorers improve to 8-2-2 to extend their best record through 12 games since 1996, and are off to a 2-0 start in Atlantic 10 play. The Colonials drop to 4-8 (1-2 Atlantic 10).
 
Joe Farrell got the Explorers on the board in the 28th minute with his fourth goal of the season. Plumhoff flicked the ball over a Colonial defender to find Farrell, who put the ball in to the far post.
 
The Explorers extended their 1-0 halftime lead with three goals in the second half. Jidell Roach picked up the ball at midfield and ran it down to find Friskey, who blasted it into the net for his second goal of the season in the 57th minute.
 
Plumhoff added to the attack 11 minutes later, emerging from a scrum in front of the net for the score. Tom Baker was credited with the assist.
 
The Explorers' offensive explosion was not complete, however, as rookie Jason Spieker came off the bench for his first collegiate goal, an unassisted shot in the 88th minute. He picked up a deflection off a GW defender and tapped it in past Colonial goalie Luke Farrell.
 
The Explorers outshot the Colonials 13-10, while the home squad held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
 
John McCarthy stopped five shots to record his league-leading seventh shutout othe season. Luke Farrell made six saves in his debut while suffering the loss.
 
The Explorers meet up with No. 22 Charlotte on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Transamerica Field.
