PHILADELPHIA - Although La Salle outshot visiting Saint Joseph's 31-15, the Explorers and Hawks battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie at McCarthy Stadium on Friday night in both Atlantic 10 and Soccer Six action.
The Explorers move to 8-5-3 overall (2-3-1 Atlantic 10), while the Hawks are now 5-10-1 (1-5-1 Atlantic 10).
The Hawks got on the board first when Alex Critzos found himself in front of an empty net amid a battle on the right side of the net in the 27th minute. The ball found Critzos, who chipped it in for the opening score.
Tom Kalpokas netted his first goal of the season to tie the game in the 63rd minute.
Jidell Roach snagged a steal off of a Hawk defender in the box and slipped it over to Kalpokas, who fired the ball into the net.
La Salle had several golden opportunities for more goals, including a
Jason Plumhoff shot that ricocheted off the post in the 57th minute. Plumhoff nearly lined one into the left side of the net in the 77th minute but it sailed inches wide. Kalpokas hit one off the post in the 98th minute.
The Hawks thought they had the winning goal with 25 seconds remaining in the second overtime, but the score was called off due to a St. Joe's foul in the box and the time expired to seal the 1-1 tie.

The Explorers conclude their home schedule on Sunday against Temple at 1 p.m.
