PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle track and field program released its 2012-13 indoor and outdoor schedule on Friday (Nov. 2), head coach Dan Ireland announced. The slate is highlighted by a number of local meets as well as a slew of highly competitive events all over the country.
“I am very excited about the outlook for our indoor and outdoor track and field teams,” Ireland said. “Both teams return most of our key athletes from last year and we pick up a few key athletes that did not compete. Both the men's and women's track athletes have had very strong fall training periods so far and are very excited about the upcoming seasons.”
The indoor schedule begins across town on December 1 when the blue and gold square off at the Villanova Invitational in the only scheduled event before the calendar turns.
The Georgetown Invitational on January 18 kicks off the full indoor grind, marking the first of seven consecutive weekends the Explorers will be in action. Coach Ireland graduated from Georgetown in 1991 and celebrated a decorated distance career during his tenure.
The squad will split the next three weekends, with the Yale Giegengack Invitational (Feb. 1-2), the Husky Classic (Feb. 9), the Hoosier Hills Invitational (Feb. 9), and the historic Milrose Games (Feb. 9) on the February slate.
The Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships are set for Feb. 16-17 at the University of Rhode Island followed by regional championship events Mar. 2-3.
The Explorers' outdoor docket begins on Mar. 23 at the Big Five Invitational, marking the first of five local events La Salle will compete in during the spring. The team will split the following weekend, as some will travel to the Stanford Invitational (Mar. 29) and others will stay close at the Danny Curran Widener Invitational (Mar. 29-30).
La Salle will visit Princeton thrice in the spring, competing at the Sam Howell Invitational (Apr. 5-6), the Larry Ellis Invitational (Apr. 19), and the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships (May 10-12). Trips to William & Mary (Colonial Relays, Apr. 5-6) and George Mason (GM Invitational, Apr. 13) highlight the remainder of the spring schedule.
The Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships are slated for May 4-5, hosted by Charlotte.
