Women's Swimming and Diving Fall Recap

PHILADELPHIA – The women's swim and dive team has completed competition for the 2012 fall semester and was led by many impressive performances during the season.

Senior Elizabeth Jordan asserted herself as the fastest sprint freestyler to ever compete at La Salle. The Tobyhanna, Pa. native broke the two-year-old 100 yard freestyle school record at the Bucknell Invitational (11/19/12) in 50.82, a time also fast enough to win the event. With the addition of this record, Jordan now owns the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyle school records. In addition to her school record-setting 100 free, Jordan also earned victories in the 50 yard freestyle (23.40) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.30). Furthermore, Jordan was a member of all four winning relays, brining her win count for the meet to seven. For her amazing accomplishment, Jordan was named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week.

Fellow senior Jessica Simunek put together a fantastic fall season, as well. The Cherry Hill, NJ native also had a spectacular performance at the Bucknell Invitational, winning the 100 yard butterfly in 56.04, just eleven one-hundredths of second shy of her own school record. Simunek also took the 200 yard breaststroke in a personal best time of 2:16.99 – a time that also crushed the field by nearly four seconds. She picked up second and third place finishes in the 200 yard individual medley (2:06.93) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.29), respectively.

Sophomore Colleen Larkin has had an outstanding season so far, collecting several wins and a few personal best times. Larkin earned three wins in the first four meets of the season in the 500 free. At the Bucknell Invitational, Larkin won the 500 free in a conference and career best time of 4:54.46. She also notched a second place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle (16:51.86), a time that is just three seconds off her winning time at the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship.

Freshman Kelly Quinn has been a solid contributor to the Explorer's success this season. The Havertown, Pa. native earned two wins on the 3 meter board against Drexel (246.60) and Butler, Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, and Xavier at the Spire Institute (222.90). Quinn also secured a fourth place finish on 1 meter at the Bucknell Invitational with a score of 234.00.

The men's swim and dive squad is off from competition for the remainder of December. The Explorers will travel to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on January 2 for a nine-day training trip before returning to competition at the University of Rhode Island on January 11 & 12.
