La Salle Heads North For A Saturday Match-up At Siena On The Comcast Network


PHILADELPHIA – After a week off for the Christmas holiday, the La Salle men's basketball team returns to action Saturday evening at Siena.

La Salle | Siena

Last Time Out
La Salle erupted for a 100-71 victory over Sacred Heart last Saturday. Six Explorers finished the game in double figures, led by 22 from Ramon Galloway, who added seven assists as well. The Blue and Gold converted 54 percent (34-63) from the field including a 9-21 (43 percent) mark from behind the arc.

All-Time Series
La Salle holds a 4-3 all-time series advantage, although the two schools have not met since March 8, 1992, an 84-71 Explorer win in the MAAC Semifinals. La Salle and Siena met seven times in a three-year span when the Explorers were finishing up their stay in the MAAC. The home team won all but one of the five regular season meetings. Two match-ups came in the 1990 and 1992 MAAC Semifinals, with La Salle winning both on its way to league titles at Knickerbocker Arena, now known as the Times-Union Center.

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle was won two straight and has combined to score 188 points, shooting 52 percent (70-134) from the field in the two contests. As a team, the Explorers average 75.3 points/game, the second highest figure in the Atlantic 10. They also rank first in free throw percentage (.741).

Galloway's 18.0 points/game sits atop the A-10 leaderboard while his 2.5 steals/game ranks third. Junior guard Tyreek Duren enters the weekend at 16.4 points/game (sixth in conference) and ranks in the top 15 in free throw percentage (.804), steals/game (1.7), three-point field goal percentage (.405), assist/turnover ratio (1.5), and minutes/game (35.2). The Neumann-Goretti product was recently named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List.

Scouting the Saints
Siena enters the weekend looking to break an eight-game losing streak. The Saints last won on November 17, a 56-52 win over Northern Kentucky. Siena has defended its opponents effectively this season, ranking second in the MAAC in field goal percentage defense (.409) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.285).

Senior forward O.D. Anosike leads the Saints in scoring at 13.3 points/game, ranking 11th in the conference. His 12.4 rebounds/game ranks in the top five nationally. Sophomore guard Rob Poole comes in averaging 12.2 points/game while sophomore guard Evan Hymes averages 11.8 points/game.

Connections
Siena sophomore Rakeem Brookins is a 2010 graduate of Roman Catholic HS in Philadelphia. He was a first team Daily News All-City pick along with Explorers Tyreek Duren and Tyrone Garland. La Salle has also played against the other two players on that team in Tony Chennault (Villanova) and DJ Newbill (Penn State).
