AMHERST, Mass.– After a week off, the La Salle men's basketball team will hit the road to visit Massachusetts on Saturday in a nationally-televised contest on CBS Sports Network. Tip-off is set for 6 PM from the Mullins Center.

This is the second of two meetings between the two schools this season with the Explorers taking a 82-75 victory at Gola Arena on January 8 after racing to a 26-point half-time advantage. Senior Earl Pettis had 19 points to lead the Blue and Gold in that contest.

Scouting the Explorers (17-9, 6-5 A-10)

La Salle will look to get back on the winning track with five games remaining in the regular season. At 6-5 in the league, the Explorers currently sit in a four-way tie for sixth place and just one-game out of fourth. The top four teams at the conclusion of the regular season receive a bye to the A-10 quarterfinals in Atlantic City, N.J.

Junior Ramon Galloway leads the team in scoring at 14.7 ppg. and ranks fifth nationally in three-point percentage at .472. He is also second in the Atlantic 10 in three-pointers per game at 2.6.

Pettis adds 14.5 ppg and needs 85 points to reach 1,000 for his collegiate career. Sophomore Tyreek Duren adds 13.6 ppg. and has shot 11-for-16 (68.8%) from three-point range over his last 10 games. He now ranks sixth in the league in three-point shooting (.423).

Sophomore Sam Mills, who is fifth in the A-10 in three-point shooting (.429), chips in with 11.4 ppg. La Salle has three of the top six three-point shooters in the A-10 by percentage and is the only school with multiple players in the top 10.

Freshman Jerrell Wright, coming off an 18-point, nine-rebound performance versus Saint Louis, averages 9.3 ppg. and a team-high 6.0 rpg.

The three-point shot continues to play a big role in the offense as La Salle is fifth nationally in shooting it from long-range (.415). LU is second in the A-10 and 32nd nationally in three-point field goals (213).

Scouting the Minutemen (18-7, 7-4 A-10)

Massachusetts is a perfect 12-0 at home this season, the 18th longest active streak in the nation. The Minutemen are led by Chaz Williams, who averages 15.6 ppg. and an Atlantic 10 best 6.0 apg. Raphiael Putney (10.0 ppg.), Jessee Morgan (9.7 ppg.) and Terrell Vinson (9.2 ppg.) round out a balanced attack.

This will be the first trip to Amherst for La Salle since 2009. The last two meetings have been played in Springfield, Ma.

Series History

UMass leads the series 14-13, but La Salle has won six of the last seven. The two teams met in the 1991 NIT First Round with UMass taking a 93-90 victory. This is second of two meetings this season.
