DAVIDSON, N.C. - On opening day of the 2012 campaign, La Salle split a doubleheader with a 3-1 victory over Bucknell before falling to host Davidson, 4-3, in the night cap on day two of the Davidson Tournament.
Eric Van Wyk (1-0) earned the victory on the hill in game one of the twinbill and hurled six innings of three-hit, one-run ball with seven strikeouts. After allowing a lead off walk to the first batter of the game, the senior allowed just three hits the remainder of his outing and let multiple runners reach base safely just once.

Caolan Ronan relieved Van Wyk in the seventh and pitched 1.1 scoreless frames.
With one out in the eighth, lefty transfer Ryan Donahue made his La Salle debut and faced just one batter before giving way to closer
Pat Christensen who slammed the door for a four-out save. Donahue transferred to La Salle from Long Beach State after the fall semester and has been on the team for just a few weeks.
Christensen notched his 25th career save, moving to within four of the all-time La Salle record and struck out three of the four batters he faced.
Offensivley, La Salle jumped on Davidson starter Ryan Ebner (0-1) early with two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from
Joe Bennie and
Zack Feierstein.
Marc Schoch added a sac fly in the fourth to cap off the scoring for the Explorers.
In game two,
Kevin Christy got his first start of the season and struck out 10 batters in five innings of work. The right-hander departed in the sixth with the his club trailing 2-1 but recorded a no decision.
The Explorers (1-1) battled back and took a 3-2 lead with a run the sixth on a
Dan Klem sac fly and another in the seventh when
Adam Kammler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
However in the home half of the seventh, Davidson evened things at 3-3 with a solo home run off reliever
Dominic Sgroi and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI bunt single off Ronan (0-1), who suffered the loss.
La Salle's Sunday finale against Niagara has already been postponed due to rain. The Explorers will be action again next weekend with a three-game weekend series at Gardner Webb.
