McPeak Shines Bright As Explorers Finish Fifth At A-10 Championships


KINGSTON, R.I.- The final day of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships began on a high note for the Explorers as Terence McPeak and Brett Sheppard scored key points in the 800 meter race at Mackal Field House.
 
McPeak and Shepherd teamed up for a one-two finish in the half mile. McPeak won the individual title with a time of 1:54.92 while Shepherd was the next runner to cross the finish line with a time of 1:55.47.
 
Paul Reilly crossed the finish line in second in the 1000 meter race, just a head of teammate Nick Crits. Reilly recorded a time of 2:27.27, just .02 seconds ahead of Crits.
 
Crits came back to finish third in the mile run, with a time of 4:14.43. Vince Perozze (5th, 4:19.16) ran well enough to place and score for the Explorers.  
 
David Laratta, Shepherd, Reilly and McPeak teamed up for a second place finish in the 4x800 meter race. The relay recorded a time of 7:38.40, just nine-hundredths of a second behind the winner, Fordham.
 
On Friday, the first day of the events, the Distance Medley relay won the title, just a head of St. Joseph's. Nick Ross, Wayne Bartholomew, Laratta, and Crits all competed in the DMR. Crits anchored the relay to a time of 10:06.03.
 
La Salle finished in fifth place with a total of 78 points. The host and pre-season favorite Rhode Island won the conference title.
 
The Explorers will have a few days to prepare for the Armory Collegiate Challenge in New York on February 23.
