Men's Basketball Heads To Palestra To Meet Rival Saint Joseph's At Noon On Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - Sitting alone in first place in the Atlantic 10 midway through the conference schedule, the La Salle men's basketball team travels to the Palestra to meet its biggest rival, Saint Joseph's, at noon on Saturday. The game will be televised in Philadelphia by The Comcast Network with Tom McCarthy and John Griffin on the call. 

Scouting the Explorers (17-6, 6-2 A-10, 1-1 Big 5)

La Salle has won four straight games and 10 of its last 12 to head into the Palestra with a 17-6 record, 6-2 in the A-10. The Palestra has been kind to the Explorers of late, with the Blue and Gold winning seven of the last nine in the historic building. LU has won the last three over SJU in the Palestra.

The 6-2 conference start is the best for the Explorers since joining the conference and is a half-game ahead of second-place Temple in the standings. 

Sophomore Tyreek Duren had 22 points and six assists on Wednesday in a 85-72 win over Charlotte, while freshman Jerrell Wright added 18. Duren has made 20 straight free throws and is 9-for-12 from three-point range over his last seven games. He has moved into ninth on the Atlantic 10 three-point percentage rankings at .417.

Wright has played well of late as well, averaging 14.3 ppg. in his last four games while shooting 66.7% from the field.

Junior Ramon Galloway continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.2 ppg. and ranks ninth in the Atlantic 10. He has also been a distributor for the Explorers, averaging 6.7 apg. in his last three games. Senior Earl Pettis adds 14.9 ppg., while Duren (13.9) and sophomore Sam Mills (11.5 ppg.) round out four Explorers in double-figures.

Scouting the Hawks (14-9, 4-4 A-10, 1-1 Big 5)

Saint Joseph's is coming off a 70-60 victory at Richmond on Wednesday. Carl Jones (16.1 ppg.) and Langston Galloway (15.7 ppg.) are among the top scorers in the Atlantic 10.

C.J. Aiken ranks fourth nationally in blocks per game (4.1) and the Hawks are second as a team (7.9). Aiken?(11.5 ppg.) and Ronald Roberts (11.1 ppg./6.0 rpg.) lead the front court.

Series History
SJU leads the all-time series 62-52, but La Salle has won three of the last four. Saint Joseph's is La Salle's most commonly played opponent with 114 meetings. A total of 53 meetings have been played at the Palestra and 23 were played at Convention Hall. Twelve meeting locations are unknown (1909-1922)...The teams played three times from 1900-02 when SJU was a non-varsity team.
