PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball squad returns home to Tom Gola Arena on Saturday when the Explorers host Massachusetts. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
UMass holds a 14-6 advantage in the series that dates back to 1985, but it was the Explorers who came up with the 67-63 win last season in Amherst.
Scouting La Salle (10-12, 4-3 Atlantic 10)...
The Explorers completed a season sweep of Fordham on Wednesday, escaping Rose Hill Gym with a 56-55 win thanks to
Michea Bryant free throw with 2.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
Nadia Duncan battled through illness to tie the game-high scoring with 15 points and also added a game-best seven rebounds.
Brittany Wilson added 11 points for the Explorers.
Wilson continues to lead the squad in scoring with 13.9 points per game, which ranks her fifth in the Atlantic 10. She is scoring at a 16.3 ppg clip in league play to rank her fourth. She is also second in three-point field goal percentage in league play, hitting 45.8 percent of her triple attempts.
Duncan has been a solid force since the start of Atlantic 10 play with her sharp shooting. The senior is hitting a blistering 65.4 percent of her field goal attempts, ranking her third in that category.
Rookie
Jada Payne has found herself in the Atlantic 10 rankings since the start of league play. She is scoring 11.9 points per contest in Atlantic 10 games compared to 9.2 ppg overall, ranking her tied for 17th in the A-10. She also nets an average of 1.2 made treys per game for which she ranks seventh in the conference.
Scouting Massachusetts (6-16, 1-6 Atlantic 10)...
The Minutewomen come in looking to snap a five-game losing skid, the latest an 80-58 setback at Charlotte. Junior Jasmine Watson notched a season-high 24 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double.
Watson is the team's leading scorer with 12.4 points per game. Shakia Robinson joins her in double figures, averaging 11.9 per contest.
The Watson/Robinson duo also leads the squad in rebounding, with 8.0 and 6.0 boards per game, respectively.
