Brendan Norton needed 11 innings to record his first hit of the game but it was worth the wait. The senior's walk-off RBI single helped La Salle earn a 3-2 victory over Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon.
The win marks three in a row for the Explorers (9-8) as they inch back over the .500 mark.
Norton's single was preceded by a scoreless 11th inning of releif by
Pat Christensen (3-1) who earned the win for the second straight day. Ryan Donahue also turned in 2.1 innings of scorless releif to keep Saint Peter's in check.
Adam Kammler gave La Salle the early lead with an RBI double in the first inning.
The Peacocks (3-16) tied things a half inning later off La Salle starter
Kevin Christy when James Smith recorded an RBI groundout that evened the game at 1-1.
Christy lasted seven innings and allowed just the one run off four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in a no decision.
Both teams traded base runners in the middle frames before La Salle took a 2-1 lead in the fifth off an RBI single by
George Smith Jr.
Saint Peter's was able to even things in the eighth off reliever
Adam Cherry. The freshman retired the first two batters of the inning before allowing a double to Justyn Carter.
Cherry was relieved by Ryan Donahue who allowed a single to pinch hitter Brian Schroeder that scored Carter from second and tied the game at 2-2.
La Salle will conclude the Big 5 Baseball Bash on Sunday when they take on New York Tech at noon.
