PHILADELPHIA – March Madness has arrived at Gola Arena as the seventh-seeded La Salle Explorers will host the #10 Richmond Spiders on Tuesday at 7 PM in an Atlantic 10 First Round game. The winner of the contest will advance to the A-10 Quarterfinals on Friday to play #2 Saint Louis at 6:30 PM at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
Tuesday's game will not be televised but fans can watch the game for free through the Atlantic 10 live video feed. Live statistics and tweets will also be available. Fans should use the hashtags #A10Tourney and #LaSalleMBB.
Scouting the Explorers (20-11)
La Salle reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 1991-92 with a 71-61 victory over St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Sophomore Tyreek Duren scored a game-high 21 points, while senior Earl Pettis had 16, including the 1,000th of his collegiate career, in the victory.
The Explorers are 7-6 all-time in A-10 opening round games and have won three of the last four. Dr. John Giannini is 3-1 in A-10 opening round games, including an exciting 75-73 double-overtime victory last year at St. Bonaventure.
La Salle is 1-0 in A-10 First Round games at Gola Arena, having defeated Fordham, 74-62, in 2003. Richmond defeated La Salle, 68-60, in the 2002 A-10 Semifinals in the only other postseason match-up between the two schools.
Pettis, the league's Most Improved Player, leads the team in scoring at 15.2 ppg. and ranks 11th in the A-10 in scoring. Junior
Ramon Galloway, a second team all-conference selection, scores 14.1 ppg. while Duren adds 13.6 ppg.
LU is 13-2 at home this season, the best home record since the 1968-69 team was 14-0 on its way to a 23-1 season. The 13 wins is also a Gola record for most wins in a season.
Scouting the Spiders (16-15)
Richmond comes into tonight's game having won three of four to finish 16-15, 7-9 in the A-10. The Spiders are led by Darien Brothers at 14.0 ppg., while A-10 Rookie of the Year Kendall Anthony adds 13.4. Derrick Williams, who scored 22 points in a 78-76 win over La Salle on Feb. 8, adds 11.1 ppg. and 5.5 rpg. while Cedrick Lindsey (11.0 ppg., 111 assists) runs the point.
Connections
Richmond head coach Chris Mooney is a graduate of Philadelphia's Archbishop Ryan High School. He also spent time as a head coach at nearby Lansdale Catholic High School and Beaver College (now Arcadia University).
Richmond's Luke Piotrowski the son of former La Salle and NBA big-man Tom Piotrowski (1978-83), while Greg Robbins (Lower Merion) is a product of Wynnewood, Pa.
Richmond associate head coach Kevin McGeehan is from Maple Glen, PA and was the head coach at Beaver College and
Springfield (Montco) High School.

Richmond's Derrick Williams scored on a put-back with 5.8 seconds left to propel the Spiders to a 78-76 victory over La Salle on Wednesday night at the Robins Center. Sophomore
Tyreek Duren scored 17 points to lead the Explorers, while classmate
Sam Mills added 16. Williams was a beast underneath in the final minute, grabbing seven offensive boards and scoring the Spiders final five points.
