Explorers Drop Series Opener At Fordham, 5-0; Saturday's Doubleheader Now Begins At Noon

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - Fordham starter Daniel Munday tossed a complete game shutout, limiting La Salle to five hits, in a 5-0 victory over the Explorers on Friday at Houlihan Park. Freshman Justin Korenblatt had two hits for the Blue and Gold.

Senior Eric Van Wyk (3-5) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs in seven innings. He struck out seven batters.

Munday struck out nine and walked just two to improve to 4-3.

The Rams (16-24, 8-5 A-10) got on the board in the fourth with three runs and added two more in the sixth.

The Explorers placed runners in scoring position on a handful of occasions but couldn't push home a run.

Korenblatt broke up the no-hitter in the fifth and stole second but was stranded there. Senior Brendan Norton walked and reached second on a passed ball in the seventh but was left there.

The best chance to score came in the eighth when Korenblatt and junior Dan Klem each singled, but Korenblatt was thrown out trying to advance to third. Sophomore George Smith, Jr. followed with a double to put Explorers on second and third with one out but the rally died there.

Junior Shane Petrellis tossed a scoreless eighth for La Salle (16-21, 3-7 A-10).

Mike Mauri had three hits and knocked in two for the Rams.

The series resumes on Saturday with a doubleheader at noon.
