La Salle Concludes Season By Hosting Dayton In Three-Game Series


PHILADELPHIA -  The La Salle baseball team will wrap up the 2012 campaign by hosting Dayton in a three-game Atlantic 10 series beginning on Thursday at 3 PM at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers will recognize their senior class, which owns the second most wins in program history, prior to Saturday's game. 

Probable Starters
Thursday: LHP Eric Van Wyk (3-7, 3.61) vs. RHP Mike Hauschild (6-2, 4.55)
Friday: LHP Ryan Donahue (3-3, 2.84) vs. RHP Tim Bury (7-2, 2.91)
Saturday: RHP Kevin Christy (2-4, 2.67) vs. TBA

Scouting the Explorers (20-30, 7-14 A-10)

The Explorers wrap up the 2012 campaign with a three-game series vs. Dayton.

Kevin Christy (2-4, 2.67 ERA) will get the ball on Saturday as the reigning Big 5 Pitcher of the Week. He also set the school's career strikeout record with 223 in his last start.

Eric Van Wyk (3-7, 3.61 ERA) goes on Thursday and is one win away from moving into fourth all-time at La Salle. Ryan Donahue (3-3, 2.84 ERA) pitches on Friday after picking up a win last weekend.

Jeff Flax, the team's leading hitter at .301, needs five hits to move into sixth place on La Salle's all-time list.

Pat Christensen (4-2, 9 saves, 2.61 ERA) has played a part in 13 of La Salle's 20 wins. The Explorers lead the league in ERA (3.01) during conference games.

La Salle will recognize its senior class prior to Saturday's game.

Scouting the Flyers (25-28, 14-7 A-10)

Dayton is coming off a 7-2 loss at Ohio on Tuesday to wrap up the non-conference slate. The Flyers can earn a tie for the A-10 regular season championship with Saint Louis by sweeping the Explorers. UD has already clinched a berth in next week's A-10 Tournament.

Senior Mike Hauschild (6-2, 4.55 ERA)?will get the start on Thursday with classmate Tim Bury (7-2, 2.91 ERA) going on Friday. Saturday's starter is TBA.

Brian Blasik (.342, 20 2B, 40 RBI) and Bobby Glover (.341, 8 HR, 36 RBI) provide a one-two punch for the Flyer offense. C.J. Gillman (.329), Zach Stewart (.315) and Robby Sunderman (.302) also bat over .300 for UD.

Dayton leads the A-10 in average (.296) and runs (332). The Flyers lead the country in steals (153), led by Blasik's 34 (5th nationally). Gillman's 59 RBI rank seventh in Division I.
